World Children's Day at the Natural History Museum

20 Novr 2019

The 20th of November is the World Children's Day since 1954. November 20th is an important day, since on this date in 1959 the United Nations'General Assembly adоpted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. The same date was used in 1990 by the UN for adopting the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

To acknoledge the celebration, the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres said:

"Around the world, children are showing us their strength and leadership advocating for a more sustainable world for all. Let’s build on advances and re-commit to putting children first. For every child, every right."

At BSS Plovdiv we took our pupils to the Natural History Museum to both celebrate the occasion and learn about plants. The current topic of our pupils' lessons is "What the plants need". So, we took the opportunity to visit the miniature rain forest that they have at the museum and discuss what the plants need in order to survive and grow stronger.

This botanical endeavour was received with enthusiasm by the children. They also saw the newly built aquarium and many different living and nonliving speciments, which the museum has on its disposal.

It was a fun and educational experience and we will definitely go there again some day.
