International Human Rights Day

10 Dec 2019

Today we commemorate the International Human Rights Day. As does everyone else, our bright students also have a bunch of rights and obligations. And we are educating them that all people on the planet have equal rights, no matter of their gender, religion or place of birth. At the British School of Sofia, as an international institution, it is our duty to further enhance our students’ understanding upon the matter.

As a student at BS Plovdiv, you have many rights. You have the right to be happy. You have the right to feel comfortable and safe. You have the right to study.

Of course, with the rights come the obligations. Here, you have to work hard. You have to be kind, polite and helpful towards your teachers, classmates and the general school staff. You have to be honest and gentle with the rest of us.

Obliging to the norms of the school not only give you rights as a student and as a person. It also makes for a tightly knit team, which works as a clockwork and contributes to the success of the learning processes.

Human Rights Day is celebrated every year on 10th December. This day is celebrated internationally to honor 10th Dec 1948, when the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights at Palais de Challoit, Paris after the experience of the Second World War. This was one of the first major achievements of the United Nations. Universal Declaration of Human Rights is also one of the worlds most translated document into more than 360 language versions and also holds a world record for this.
