First School Day at BSS Plovdiv

16 Sep 2019
This is the start day for us at BSS Plovdiv, said at the opening ceremony Mr. Jason Neil, Headmaster of BSS Plovdiv.

BSS Plovdiv started the first school year in its history. Many smiling faces and a lot of excitement marked the first school day. Mr. Tom Hines, Political attaché of the British Embassy, was official guest to the ceremony.

“It is a historic day for the city also as we are going to embark on a new journey to improve education in the city of Plovdiv. Plovdiv is the European capital for culture and in the same time we are opening a new school for the community, for the people of Plovdiv, and for the future of Plovdiv”, added Mr. Neil. He also said: "Our school is a satellite of BSS and we will build on the great success of that school. I should say that our parent school – BSS, is the most successful school in the country being the only “British school overseas” in Bulgaria, and the only truly international British school in the country."

Mr. Neil is the first headmaster of BSS Plovdiv and he deeply acknowledges the honor that has been given. "I can’t say how happy I am being here as the first headmaster of BSS Plovdiv. This is something that is going to transform the community and transform education to produce students that are ready to meet the challenges of the 21st century. I am very pleased to be a part of this wonderful campus", he said.

Tom Hines, Head of the Political section of British Embassy in Sofia, was a special guest to the ceremony. "It is a pleasure to be here in Plovdiv. Thank you for inviting me. I know that your school has high standards and good exam results", said Mr. Hines during the opening ceremony. He emphasised the BSS' s mission and vision, by saying that BSS’s vision is about developing students that are successful and empathetic global citizens.

"I am delighted to be here and to welcome BSS Plovdiv into our family". This was the warmly welcome to our community from the Headmaster of BSS Mr. Matthew Osborn. "Let us hope that in the near future this school will no longer be the little sister, but the equal partner we have. I think this is the start of the tree of the education in Plovdiv, the British tree of education in Plovdiv", he also said.

Mr. Osborn appreciated the confidence that the parents have put into this school. "For me it is a great honor that we have this school that will work closely with BSS and give your children the same education that you would have in the bigger school. I am confident that the headmaster and the teachers in front of you, as well as the staff in Sofia will be behind you 100%", added Mr. Osborn.
